Welcome to Vintage Tools Melbourne! Antique hand tools – PREMIUM QUALITY saw #332. Up for sale is a Premium Quality DISSTON Model D8 SAW, freshly hand sharpened to a fast cutting 7PPI cross cut. The saw plate is made from Disstons Steel & is a factory 7PPI, the handle is applewood & is a rich toffee brown colour, the saw plate is 26 / 665mm long & is a nice thin & stiff plate, it dates to between 1917-40. This saw has been hand sharpened to 15° of rake, 25° of fleam with minimal set for dry timber, this is a high quality joiners cross cut saw with a good taper grind to the plate & a lightly breasted toothline. This saw is for the woodworker that is happy to work unplugged, you’ll know what I mean when you read this, it’s like fast food vs slow food, it’s getting back to the heart of woodworking & using your hands, not flicking a switch. Any blue colour you can see on the toothline is engineers blue set out fluid that my saw dr uses to keep track of where he’s filed- if you’ve ever sharpened a saw before this will make sense to you, it rubs of easy with meths or orange oil or use. Size – overall length 74cm. This saw is in authentic vintage condition, wear and tear consistent with age and use, freshly hand sharpened & set, a near full width plate with a decent taper grind & bold etch, the handle is tidy. A post 1928 etch on the blade, it’s a lovely fast cutting 7PPI joiners crosscut saw with minimal set for dry timber, ready to go to work in the discerning workshop.
