PREMIUM Quality SHARP! Vintage DISSTON 1865-71 No7 SAW Antique Old Tool #298
Welcome to Vintage Tools Melbourne! Antique hand tools – PREMIUM QUALITY saw #298. Up for sale is a gorgeous Premium Quality HENRY DISSTON & Son (singular) early 1865-71 No:7 Rip SAW, freshly Hand Sharpened. This saw is a full sized rip saw, 28 / 710mm long, with a graduated tooth line 4.5PPI at the heel from 5.5PPI at the toe with a very gently breasted crown, hand sharpened to 5° of rake. It’s a very early Disston No:7 Saw, it dates to around 1865-71 when his first son Hamilton Disston joined. The handle has that rich deep patina of age & countless hours of work that you get from being over 150 years old, it’s old quarter sawn beech with tiger stripes & leopard spots of grain. Note that the handle is crisp with remnants of the Disston trade label on the grip, the blade is full & fairly bright with a bold etch & even still has the heel stamp. This saw is for the woodworker that is happy to work unplugged, you’ll know what I mean when you read this, it’s like fast food vs slow food, it’s getting back to the heart of woodworking & using your hands, not flicking a switch. Overall length – 82cm. This saw is in authentic vintage condition, freshly sharpened & set, the tip of the top horn has been professionally repaired, a full bold etch, isolated spots of pitting, the blade is deep & full & fairly bright- it’s done little work, a previous owners stamp on the rear handle, it’s lovely saw, ready to go to work in the discerning workshop, it’s a gorgeous No:7, nice & early, the saw that started it all & the saw that Henry Disston staked his reputation on & this one is a beauty, feels just right in the hand, ready to go to work in the discerning workshop.
