Up for sale is an authentic VINTAGE BELGIAN COTICULE Natural Sharpening Stone / Razor Hone, this one still displays the factory stamp showing this Stone to be graded SUPER- extremely rare to find a vintage Bout with a factory stamp, also visible is “Bout Belgian Coticule”. This stone is a “Bout”, a irregular trapezoid shaped slice 98mm long, 52mm wide at one end & tapered to 30mm at the other end. The coticule slice is tapered & is NATURALLY bonded to a BELGIAN BLUE WHETSTONE, the Coticule layer has veins running to the surface, if you run your fingernail down the stone they don’t catch in the veins, it also tiny butter coloured circular inclusions. The original veins of BBW natural bonded coticles are now exhausted & the modern production bonds coticules to a slate backing to keep them stable. An extremely fine finishing stone, coticles give similar results comparable to 12,000grit sharpening stones. The ruler & Redhead box of matches in the photos are for a size comparison only, not for sale. This coticle stone is in authentic vintage condition, a couple of chips to the chamfered run off edge & a small chip in the center towards the skinnier end of the stone, photos 10 & 11 show the stone wet, the stone is flat & will give years & years of service, a factory stamped Vintage Bout is extremely rare, definitely one for the collector / enthusiast.
