It has above average darker natural tarnish on the buckle back and sides, but the front looks very good, shiny, and colorful. You can easily clean and polish this buckle to make it look like new again if you’d prefer that appearance. The little sack stamped on the back is actually an eagle hallmark. This one has the number 4 inside of it. Deciphering the letters and hallmarks on these old Mexican sterling silver handmade buckles is a bit of an art… The letters usually indicate both area of production and the actual individual artisan maker. The numbers inside the eagle marks also indicate something (not known to us). These Mexican makers actually documented their products even better than the USA mid 20th century buckle producers did.
